John Lewis stock most major brands from Lego and Play Mobile to Sylvanian Families and Fisher Price. Their never knowingly undersold message means that you can buy these brands in confidence. They also have a wide range of their own brand John Lewis toys but these seem more me-too products rather than anything particularly imaginative and their prices range from attractive (£6 tambourine) to over priced (£12 wooden noughts and crosses) so worth a check before buying.

The new kid on the block The Entertainer was set up in 1981 and now has 130 stores. It is a chain set up on Christian values, the stores only open on Sundays in the run up to Xmas and they give 10% of their profits to charity.
The Entertainer are a specialist toy shop. They stock all major brands and have all the licensed toys to support popular films and tv. They pride themselves on their competitive pricing so if you are looking for a specific toy or character this is probably the place to start.

With 60 stores across the UK House of Fraser is one of our largest department stores. They have a pretty good toy department but in my opinion it’s the sort of place where you buy toys only if you need something else from the store at the same time and not worth a special trip.

An Irish chain store with 96 stores in England/Wales/Scotland, 5 stores in NI and 19 in Republic of Ireland. They are a superstore rather than high street so offer a very wide variety of toys across all major brands. They trade on price so there is no doubt you will be able to pick up a bargain if that is what you are looking for.

Definitely an experience and a day out rather than a normal toy shop. A multi layered shop packed with toys and entertainers. Don’t bother checking out whether you are getting the cheapest price, just relax and enjoy yourselves.
