When you think of Halloween dinosaurs may not be the first thing which springs to mind but we think our dinosaur toys make perfect Dinosaur Halloween decorations.
The origins of Halloween don’t go quite as far back as the dinosaurs, but it can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain, which was celebrated on November 1st. The Celts believed that the night before Samhain the division between the living and the dead became more blurry and allowed the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
On October 31st therefore the Celts dressed up in scary costumes and lit lamps to ward off the evil spirits.
The word Halloween dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. It means Saint’s Evening and comes from the Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve.
Halloween has come a long way since then. Many people think that Trick or Treating was as an American tradition which made its way across to Europe but in fact it started back in the medieval times with the custom of “souling”. This involved a group of people, soulers, going from parish to parish, asking the rich for “soul cakes” in exchange for a prayer for their dead.
In Scotland and Ireland the tradition was for guising, children dressed up in costumes and went door to door asking for food of small change. It was first recorded in Scotland in 1895 where children carrying lanterns made out of scooped out turnips, visited homes to be rewarded with cakes, fruit, and money.
Whatever the origins we have all now enthusiastically embraced Halloween as a great excuse for a party! How much we spend on celebrating Halloween doubled between 2013 and 2021 and now sits at a cool £600m. Spending on pumpkins alone represents over £25m.
Over 20% of adults say that they will have a party for Halloween, and 43% will celebrate in someway so it is now a big occasion for most neighbourhoods.
At Best Years we are dinosaur mad so we did not think that we could let an event as much fun as Halloween pass without introducing a little Dinosaur magic with our dinosaur Halloween decorations (or dino-mites as we like to call them)
Available as ghostly T Rex dinosaur, and trick or treating pals, T Rex dinosaur and Diplodocus dinosaur they are bound to be hugely popular with kids everywhere.
And because they looked so brilliant we added in a Halloween Shark Decoration and our sausage dog then came in on the act.
